With the all new Chrome OS, the Netbook OS market is really heating up. Companies are realizing that internet focused semi portable devices will come to main stream along with mobile phones. Just wondering what will be your preferred choice for your next Netbook?

When you say netbook, it's more of a online device rather than offline. All you need is a browser. Chrome OS just does that.

When it comes to Windows or Ubuntu, it's a full OS. Netbooks running on Atom processor will definitely run slower with these OS.

I am a windows guy. Just comfortable with it. I need some spices too with the computer. Just plain vanilla machine wont work for me.

I dont think anyone wants to buy a netbook to surf. You cell phone would do just fine. Its more important that it gives you all the flexibility in the world and does not hog resources for every click. And currently only Ubuntu(or any other linux distro) does the job well enough.

The client side I'm working at - they've just a request for replacing all laptops with a HP MiniNote netbook - makes sense all of the people here have atleast a 24" LCD screen, which they connect to, their laptops, rather than full fledged towers.

I agree with saurabh. So far, only linux based distro's have shown the flexibility and performance that can be associated for a netbook...

And to answer prashanth's views...

We dont have the slightest clue of what Chrome OS is... If its "as it is being guessed", a mini kernel which boots your device into the browser, you would / need to hold all data in the Google cloud...

If you have all the data on the cloud, you need a 24x7x365 internet connection to stay connected if you want your data... Worth Noting that when not a lot of places on the planet can actually provide you this facility!

Hm it may work. I have seen many portal companies have a custom of keeping 'bland' machines with SSH access to their development servers. I have some friends who are so comfortable with this setup. After the development/testing is finished, another SSH command to deploy into staging. Then time for a puff :cool:

BTW, whats that HP Netbooks running? Some HP linux version?

Google has already enabled offline access to many of it's web apps including Gmail, Docs, Calendar..etc. And gears won't eat up much of your space. I am guessing that they will seamlessly integrate all these into Chrome OS.

No body would go for netbooks if they want all the stuff working! Netbook, as the name says is more of an internet device (I already said that).
